Artist Interview With Daniel Krucoff

Today’s Artist Interview Is With Photographer, Daniel Krucoff From Colorado Springs, CO
Whopple: How long have you been an artist?
Daniel: Off and on for about 30 years.
Whopple: Tell us about your first attempts to be creative.
Daniel: I remember when I got my first camera I would try a lot of different things just to see how they would come out. I recall one in particular where I set up the camera on a tripod at night next to the street. I then would just
leave the shutter open as cars would go by. This created some very
interesting abstract streaks of light.
Whopple: Do you make a living with your art?
Daniel: No, I still have a day job that pays the bills. I do, however, sell my
photos in a gallery. I have also started using my photography to take jury
shots of other artist’s work for submission to shows.

Whopple: How many hours a day do you create?
Daniel: That varies quite a bit. When I am out shooting I can be hiking for most of the day. Most non shooting days I will spend at least an hour or two working on tweaking the images in Photoshop.
Whopple: How did you pick your creative medium?
Daniel: Both my grandfather and mother were pretty avid photographers when I was growing up. I guess I got the bug from them.
Whopple: What are your inspirations?
Daniel: I am inspired by most things I find in nature. Lately it has been mainly the high mountains. There is something very special about being at and above timberline. Seeing the rugged terrain and harsh environment but still find animals and small delicate plants finding a way to survive. It makes you realize that almost any obstacle can be overcome.

Whopple: How do you recharge when your creativity hits the wall?
Daniel: I get on my bike and go for a good long ride. I find that being on the bike lets me still see the beauty that is all around us, but I can look at it
differently when I am not carrying a camera.
Whopple: What was your first job?
Daniel: Paperboy.
Whopple: What are your favorite snacks when you are creating?
Daniel: Trail mix and Cliff bars.

Daniel At Work
Whopple: What gives you hope in the world?
Daniel: Seeing all of the amazing artists out there of all ages and backgrounds following their dreams and producing wonderful art.
Whopple: What do you wish you could do?
Daniel: I try not to wish. If there are things I want to do badly enough I will plan a way to make it a reality.
Whopple: What are your artistic goals?
Daniel: To be a better artist tomorrow than I am today.

Whopple: What has been your most exciting moment as an artist?
Daniel: The first time I made a print in a darkroom. Seeing the image appear as if by magic on the blank piece of paper submerged in the tray of developer is something I’ll never forget.
